Olav became very ill while imprisoned by the Gestapo and died in the Red Cross Hospital in Trondjem. Hilma and her two gaughters-in-law pleaded with the German officials to permit Olav to be taken to the hospital. They succedded but only a short time befor he died. Johan who fled into the mountains rather than be arrested came to see his father. He was disguised as a Medical Docter. Johans wife Ruth was the Head Nurse in the hospital at the time and arranged for him to have a white gown and stethoscope.

They were arrested because the Gestapo thought they were involved with the resistance movement.
